Great science isn’t enough. If an agri-tech innovation doesn’t solve a real problem for farmers, it’s unlikely to get very far.
Ceres director, Louise Sutherland, spoke to ICAEW’s Corporate Financier magazine about the UK agri-tech sector and what it takes to turn promising research into something that works in the real world.
Researchers need opportunities to get out into the field, see the challenges for themselves and work alongside farmers and growers. Equally, farmers need ways to engage with new technologies without taking on disproportionate risk.
Getting those two sides together early is a big part of how we build better agri-tech businesses and is consistently a big part of translational projects we support.
Lots of interesting perspectives in the full article, including robotics, AI, CEA and the investment landscape.
